history

The founding meeting with the election of the board took place on July 11, 2007. In the state elections in Lower Saxony in 2008 , the party ran with a state list and three direct candidates in the constituencies of Leer (83), Leer / Borkum (84) and Aurich (86). Nationwide it achieved 0.3 percent of the second vote. She achieved her best result in the constituency of Leer / Borkum with 4.5 percent.

In a letter to the President of the Lower Saxony state parliament in December 2007, the party called for an exception to the five percent hurdle due to its position as a minority representative. However, the regional returning officer denied the role of minority representation. After the state elections, the Friesians lodged an election review complaint with the Lower Saxony State Court, which rejected it as obviously unfounded , since the Lower Saxony constitution does not provide for any exceptions to the threshold clause for minorities. Since 2011, the official complaint (5% hurdle) against the state of Lower Saxony had been submitted to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg.

On April 11, 2008, the party was accepted into the European Free Alliance (EFA) as a member with observer status, on April 12, 2009 it became a full member. In the meantime (2019) it is no longer listed as a member.

On September 11, 2011, “The Frisians” ran for the first time in local elections in Lower Saxony , but not yet nationwide in their area of work. The party moved with one candidate each to the district council of Leer , the joint councils of Brookmerland and Hesel and the council of Rhauderfehn . In addition to Brookmerland, these mandates were also held in 2016 .

In 2013, the Frisians did not run for the state elections in Lower Saxony . The party has decided to boycott the election.

On February 3, 2015, "The Frisians" were removed from the collection of documents of the Federal Returning Officer in accordance with Section 2 (2) sentence 1 of the PartG.

On January 28, 2016, the ECHR decided that the 5% hurdle does not violate the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The Court stated that the "Friesen" was not treated differently in the election in Lower Saxony than other small parties in Lower Saxony. The complaint was thus dismissed.

In 2017, “The Friesians” did not run for the state elections in Lower Saxony.
