Rudolf and his brother Anton live in a “modest and comfortable hut” at the foot of a rock. In addition to the remote dwelling, they have created a private cemetery. Rudolf earns his living. He learned how to repair demolished cars himself. Anton, on the other hand, studied and writes funeral speeches . The brothers have a lot to do, especially when the weather is sunny. A serpentine leads up the mountain with the so-called "steeply rising, rugged rock" . Some drivers take the critical curve, very close to the rock, more or less illegally. Excessive speed on the narrow road or the blinding sun may be the causes.

Just as the brothers sunbathe in front of their hut and are indignant about the many unsuccessful "submissions to the Ministry of Road Construction" that Anton wrote by hand, another car crashes "down the rock". Rudolf gets to work. Anton pulls the apparently dead driver out of the wreckage by his feet and takes a look at the papers of the unfortunate man. The married ministerial director Dr. jur. Erich Kriegbaum didn't make the curve. But the supposedly dead person opens his eyes and finds the language again. Kriegbaum - it turns out - comes by because of Anton's many handwritten entries. These all concern the life-threatening curve above just below the ridge . The Ministerialdirigent admits that in and of himself he has taken handwritten documents from the population very lightly. But now, having become wise through damage, he designs a generous extension of the mountain road in front of the astonished brothers - with all the traffic safety chicanes.

Anton is not thrilled. Kriegbaum must take care of himself. To be on the safe side, Anton wrote down the name of the successor to the ministerial director: Dr. Kirstein. The funeral speech writer Anton rummages in the briefcase of the officer who has had the accident and unearths enough details for his next speech. Kriegbaum shouldn't "escape", says Anton. The hard-hitting “car locksmith” Rudolf prevents the unannounced visit from escaping. In any case, the ministerial director wanted to pay 500 marks less for the car repairs than an offer from a third party promised the brothers. Anton takes Kriegbaum's pocket knife and stabs the owner. The next handwritten submission is due after the funeral. This time to the address of Dr. Kirstein.
