action

The heroine Maud is a sophisticated woman who loves and suffers with all intensity, desires everything and seeks to enjoy life to the fullest. Bored of the same nobles and blasé, meaningless rich people who no longer touch their hearts in the least, the lady of the world picks up a poor beggar musician from the street one night, who has gone to sleep there after being drunk in the village inn had thrown out. Still asleep, Maud has him shipped to her castle and washed and re-clad by her servants. When the young man woke up the next morning, he couldn't remember anything and couldn't believe his eyes.

The young musician, a talented violinist with alert, lively eyes, does not understand what happened to him, but when he sees the elegant Maud approaching he realizes that this cannot be wrong. He has become the perfect dandy, a handsome, young, fragrant fellow whom the lady of the castle has chosen to rule by her side from now on. Maud makes him the new lord of the castle, orders that everyone should be subject to him. Her whims even dictate that she should submit to him. Soon her erotic spark reaches him too, and both of them indulge in passion. Every moment means absolute surrender, everything is only geared towards nihilistic pleasure. But one day the harsh reality catches up with both of them, which has dramatic consequences, especially for the violinist. He dies when he sees himself betrayed of his feelings, and in this moment of greatest loss Maud realizes the futility of her life so far.

Production notes

The moods of a world lady , shown in 1915 under the second title Queen of the mood , was created in the Bioscop studio in Neubabelsberg , passed the censorship on June 18, 1914 and had its German premiere in September of the same year. The film had three acts and was 811 meters long.

Shortly after Durieux made her film debut earlier this year under Stellan Rye in “The Flight in the Sun”, she played her second film role here.

criticism

“The drama“ The mood of a world lady ”is very well structured and has Hans Heinz Ewers as its author. The name says it all. One knows in advance that one can expect the most bizarre, most supersensible, even most contradictory. But he portrays everything so inhumanly beautiful, his most modern human creations are always clinging to the most mythical goat feet that the viewer is overflowing with horror in comfort. (...) The film was made by Bioskop with all the love that it has for the works of Hans Heinz Ewer. Consistently beautiful atmospheric pictures in perfect presentation. "
