Die Neue Generation was the publication organ of the German Association for Mutterschutz and was published by Verlag Oesterheld und Co. The magazine's predecessor was Mutterschutz. Journal of Sexual Ethics Reform .

The editor from 1905 to 1933 was the feminist Helene Stöcker .

History and program

In the first editions 1905–1907 the magazine had the title Mutterschutz. Journal for the reform of sexual ethics and was published in Frankfurt am Main . From 1908 to 1932 the magazine appeared as a monthly under the new title in Berlin , after which it was discontinued.

Helene Stöcker wrote about the programmatic orientation of the magazine: »From the first day of our movement we have seen our task as twofold; as much as a task of sexual reform as of social policy and modern culture in general. In the combination of practical social work and the revaluation of moral terms, we see the most essential feature of the federal government for maternity protection and its magazine. "

During the First World War, the new generation supported the peace movement in a variety of ways . This drew the editorial staff to the attention of the censors, who called for pre-censorship. Helene Stöcker did not send her own articles to the censors in advance, so that pacifist articles continued to be printed in the journal. When the National Socialists came to power, the magazine had to cease operations.

In the New Generation, the authors, especially the editor Helene Stöcker, championed the reformist ideas of the New Ethics .
