The brood of Satans of Colonel Blake (original title: 7 Winchester per un massacro ) is a spaghetti western from 1967, which Enzo Girolami made as one of his first films. It was premiered in German-speaking countries on January 19, 1968 in an abridged version.
action
1867: Colonel Thomas Blake continues the civil war as a Confederate officer even after it has officially ended. He and his people raid small towns and kill everyone they meet. For this each of his seven men has his own weapon - knife, whip, spurs, fists, etc. When Chamaco, one of the seven, is to be hanged, he is freed by Stuart, who wants to be brought to Blake; he claims that as a former subordinate to General Beauregard, he knew the hiding place of his army treasury. However, some suspect him of being a Yankee. Some time later, Manuela joins the outlaws and becomes Blake's lover. Stuart succeeds, in collaboration with Manuela - both work on behalf of the government - in luring Colonel Blake's brood of Satan to the (worthless) army coffers at an Indian cemetery and exterminating them there. Stuart and Manuela share the bounty that was placed on the gang and their leader.
criticism
Christian Keßler calls Girolami's nominal debut rather disappointing compared to his later works, “although some camera positions seem to indicate which master class the director should later take on.” The lexicon of international film classified the film as “brutal, corpse-rich spaghetti westerns with a cynical attitude " a. Even the Protestant film observer doesn't think much of the film: “The tension of the plot is impaired by an undifferentiated portrayal of the person. The film needs viewers who only want to see, but not think. "The Italian criticism was positive from the start:" Filmed in a beautiful landscape, with clever pauses to build up tension, the very good film is one of the most honorable examples of its genre recently filmed.
