The Peoples II - Ascent to the Kingdom is a computer strategy game from the Austrian publisher JoWooD . The game is the successor to the game Die Völker , published in 1999, and was developed by JoWooD's own development studio in Vienna . The Völker II was published on June 15, 2001. Internationally, in contrast to its predecessor ( Alien Nations ), it was largely marketed under the title The Nations .
Innovations
In addition to improved graphics and over 50 more sophisticated missions, each race is also divided into three tribes with different mentalities (Pimmons: Magnates, Murlochs, Stju; Amazons: Aristokas, Espadas, Galadrians; Sajikis: Brakari, Fukari, Vikari). Through prayer, animal sacrifice, etc. you can vote gods good and bad, whereupon these miracles can happen. In addition, a day / night cycle was introduced and the opposite sex was integrated into the game. So children are conceived every day, who by the next day become adolescents who can be sent to school, while adults can be retrained. Residential buildings can also be erected overnight; this is no longer possible manually. Also look for z. B. Lumberjacks their trees themselves and also scholars and knights with different characteristics can only be hired according to their offers, whereby knights already come with entourage. Crime has become more complex, it is now possible for criminals to clear out entire camps, in Die Völker only the townspeople were attacked.
In addition, some new units, buildings and resources have been added to the game.
Extensions and special editions
The Peoples II bonus pack
On November 26, 2001, a free bonus pack for The Peoples 2 was released. New are robbers, "Evil Buildings" and the "Stork Temple", as well as 22 additional missions. A mission editor was made available for download on March 8, 2002.
The Völker II Gold Edition
As with the predecessor, a gold edition was also released, which includes the bonus pack.

Reviews
The online magazine 4Players describes Die Völker II as a solid strategy game, even if the “one-dimensional framework suggests a game for the younger generation”.
The German game magazine PC Games already draws a comparison in the title of its test with the strategy game series Die Siedler and attests that the Völker series failed again in its attempt to conquer the "settlers' throne". While the economic system and the "cute graphics" are praised, the author Rüdiger Steidle criticizes the repetitive and lacking challenge.
The standard , on the other hand, speaks of a real alternative to The Settlers who can convince with funny ideas, even if a certain saturation is soon reached after playing several times.
The Spielatgeber-NRW emphasizes that trade and diplomatic communication with other peoples are in the foreground in Die Völker II .
