action

"The film describes the curriculum vitae of a sibling couple:

A young craftsman, honest and capable person, member of an athletes' club, comes under the unfounded suspicion of stolen goods. Without any conclusive evidence of his guilt, he is sentenced to two months in prison and taken away in handcuffs.

After serving his sentence, his co-workers avoid him, he is expelled from his athletes' club, finds a girl who used to be a prostitute, lives in a happy marriage with the girl, receives a job as a foster husband. His wife gives birth to a dead child and it makes him mentally ill.

When he had to recharge the rooms of a brothel in his capacity as a puller, he discovered that the brothel owner had the shameful life of his sister on her conscience. Seduced by a friend, he decides to take revenge on this brothel owner and rob her. On this occasion, the brothel owner is murdered. Although the film clearly shows that the defendant is insane, he is sentenced to death.

His sister has a rich friend for a lover. She is a seller and is fired because of her precarious lifestyle. At a party that her lover gives, she meets the young judge who has just questioned her brother for stolen goods. The young judge accompanies them to their parents' apartment. There she is rejected by her angry father. She surrenders to the judge, but leaves him when he wants to settle her with money.

A 'half-world lady' who owns an equipage and lives in a splendidly furnished apartment takes her in and seduces her into commercial fornication. On this occasion she realizes that the demi-world lady is a thief. Her first lover frees her. But when she was summoned as a witness by the young judge in court to testify against the thief, the judge questioned her, not in his exercise of his judicial activity, but for personal and hateful motives in the hearing, whereby she was then her livelihood denied and it emerged from the negotiation that she was engaged in commercial fornication at the time, she flees from her lover out of shame and now ends up in a brothel. The brother finds her there. She confesses her way of life to him, whereupon the brother, as previously indicated, decides to avenge the sister. "

background

The production company was Maxim-Film Ges. Ebner & Co. It was their first film. The film was shot with the beginning of the armistice in November 1918. The literary template comes from Hans Hyan , the buildings were created by Hans Sohnle . The seduced were the first feature film for both Sohnle and cameraman Tober .

The original length of the film was six acts at 2,241 meters, about 109 minutes. The Berlin police (probably in April / May 1919) issued a youth ban (No. 43.278).

The premiere took place in May 1919 in Berlin at the UT Kurfürstendamm.

On October 7, 1920, the existing youth ban was reaffirmed by the Reich film censors (No. 506). On April 9, 1923, the film was again submitted to the censors for examination with a length of 2,129 meters and still six files. It was banned entirely.

After cuts he was then 2,113.75 meters and was judged again for this length (No. A.24.23). However, the ban was upheld.

Carl Bulcke, as chairman of the film supervisory board, judged: “The content and the presentation of the film are filthy. In addition to the inferiority of the content and the exaggerated sensationalism, the untruthfulness of the presentation is to be emphasized: it is shown as a matter of course that someone is punished without proof of guilt, that a mentally ill person is sentenced to death, that a decent young girl, made defenseless by the social conditions, for Prostitute descends. This untruthfulness, which experience has shown to be accepted uncritically by a lower section of the population as actually true happenings in life, means a threat to public order, the poorness of the presentation means a demoralizing effect in the sense of the Film Act. Remarks

  1. The plot comes directly from the censorship report, including typing errors and inconsistencies, and was written by Carl Bulcke . How the brother condemned to death wants to avenge his sister or whether it is a second brother is likely to remain the secret of Mr. Bulcke. The film cannot be found at the moment (as of May 2014), it cannot even be said whether it is considered lost.
