The Truth of Lies is a German psychological thriller by Roland Reber from 2011.

"What is real and not is decided by the point of view". An author keeps two women trapped in an underground labyrinth: the brave ( Marina Anna Eich ) and the hesitant ( Julia Jaschke ). He wants to bring them to the limit, to the "summit". He tortures her physically and mentally. But his methods do not lead to the desired result.
His publisher , an opaque woman, drives him on and on. She plans the extreme. Who is playing with whom? Who pushes whom to their limits? A fascinating game of power begins and the author is suddenly caught between two stools. The lead slips away from him and he is catapulted into the game himself. Rules are made only to be broken right away. It seems like a battle against time, as a countdown clock is inexorably ticking towards zero. What happens then?
The author says: “Borderline experiences are only possible at the border. But where is the limit, where is the customs officer? ”Nothing seems to be what it is.

The director, Roland Reber , found the location first. A few months before filming began, he had seen a disused factory floor and was determined to make a film in this setting. At first there was only the location and the basic idea - a man holds two women prisoner - but no script yet. Reber only knew it was going to be a claustrophobic film, so he also worked with a small production team and ensemble. After brainstorming with the main cast, he wrote the script and then started shooting. After 14 days of shooting with an Arri Alexa and 16 hours of material, the film was finally completed after 36 days of post-production in October 2011 and presented at the Hof Film Festival 2011.
The film was produced without state film funding and without funding from a private film fund and celebrated its premiere in October 2011 at the Hof International Film Festival. It was released on March 29, 2012.
