action

Jean-René is a contact-shy entrepreneur who works as a chocolatier . The company he runs is on the verge of bankruptcy because, on the one hand, he is unable to successfully sell his products and, on the other hand, the traditional recipes no longer meet the taste of the times. Angélique, just as scared of dealing with people as Jean-René, applies to the almost bankrupt chocolate company. She would like to get a position in production, but is hired by a misunderstanding in sales , which turns out to be the wrong choice due to her shyness. During the interview, Angélique and Jean-René fell in love with each other, but without being able to admit it. Little by little they get closer, which culminates in dinner when Jean-René goes to the toilet every minute to change his sweaty shirt.

Angélique has a number of extremely tasty chocolate recipes, but her shyness is unable to reveal her talent, which is why she invents the legend of a hermit with whom she has contact and who guides her. In connection with a chocolate fair, Angélique and Jean-René have a night of love. But when she talks about a wedding, he panics and disappears, whereupon she threatens to leave his company and break the company's neck. But through the mediation of other employees, Angélique and Jean-René get close again to finally become a couple. On the wedding day, however, both are so insecure that they leave the church together and break out.

background

Director Améris describes himself, like his protagonists Jean-René and Angelique, as highly sensitive .

Reviews

The lexicon of international films described the film as a "lovable, turbulent love story with touchingly drawn main characters in the style of classic screwball comedies". The online edition of Focus praised Améris for creating “French chocolate cinema at its best” and emphasized the humor of the film and the “wonderful dialogues, even in the German translation”. The film-dienst judged Die anonymous Romantiker as a “wonderful romantic comedy”, which “like many romantic romance of the American screwball comedy [...] consists of a series of charming misunderstandings”.
