The Little Dragon Knight is a game for children and a skill game by the game designer Marco Teubner . The game is designed for two to four players, ages five and up, and will be available from HUCH! & Friends appeared. It was nominated for Children's Game of the Year in 2012 .

Theme and equipment

The game is about the fact that the dragon Nils stole the treasure of the little dragon knight, the player, and brought it to the dragon rock. The players want to retrieve the treasure and stack objects on top of each other to climb the rock.

The game material consists of the game instructions

  • a three-dimensional playing field, the dragon rock, with a central bar,
  • four dragon knights,
  • 50 items in five colors,
  • a color cube and
  • a gray wooden disc (boulder).

Style of play

Before the start of the game, the playing field is set up, for this the dragon rock with the central bar is placed in the game box. Then the playing field is placed in such a way that two players sit opposite each other and the items are laid out sorted by color. The players each choose a dragon knight, then a starting player is determined.

The starting player receives the color die and rolls it. Then he selects an object according to the color rolled and leans it against his side of the Drachenfels. The cube is passed clockwise and gradually the players stack the objects on their side as a knight's ladder so that they are not leaned against the middle bar. If the objects slide and fall, they are set aside and the player continues to work with the remaining objects. If a player rolls the gray side of the dice, the player sitting across from him may take the wooden disc or boulder and let it slide down on the player's side without looking. If the disc hits objects that fall, they are put aside. If the gray color is rolled before the player has leaned against an object, he may take any object.

The game ends when a player has stacked their items so high that their dragon knight can place them on them and look over the top edge. If this succeeds and the figure stops for five seconds, the player wins.

Version for three players

The version for three players corresponds to the game with two or four players, but here one player sits opposite his two fellow players and throws the boulder for both of them if she rolls the gray area.

More difficult version for advanced users

The advanced version corresponds to the normal game, but the opponent sitting opposite selects the items that must be used.

Expenses and reception

The game The Little Dragon Knights was developed by Marco Teubner and published in 2012 by HUCH! & Friends published as a German version for the Nuremberg Toy Fair . The game was illustrated by Antje Flad . Later editions appeared in French ( Léo le Dragon ) and Danish ( De Små Drageriddere ).

In May 2012, the game was launched together with Spider Poison and Toad Slime and Snap Hubi! Nominated for Children's Game of the Year , but was able to beat Schnappt Hubi! not enforce. The jury justified the nomination with:

“A massive rocking horse, massive treasure chest or narrow ladder? On the way to the Dragon's Summit, the children test their willingness to take risks again and again: Should one try to build upwards faster with objects that are not so stable, or should one rather rely on a secure foundation? In addition to the luck of the dice, every decision needs a good eye. And by the way, the child-friendly play material also promotes the fine motor skills of the little climbers. "
