The Long Big Vacation (Original Title: Les Grandes Grandes Vacances) is a French animated series that was produced between 2013 and 2015 . The series based on historical evidence was created on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War .

action

In the summer of 1939 , eleven-year-old Ernest and six-year-old Colette spent a weekend with their grandparents in Normandy . As they are used to city life, they first have to get used to life in the country. But at that time France enters World War II and everything changes with it. So that the children are largely protected from the dangers of war, they should not return to Paris . In addition, the mother got sick. This calls for a lot of compromises and adjustments from both of them. However, they also make new friends and learn a lot of new things. Because they are more often left to their own devices, they have several freedoms, but they also have to learn to grow up earlier. From their point of view, events such as the occupation of the village by German soldiers, the rationing of food, the tearing apart of families and the persecution of the Jews are reported. In doing so, they develop more and more courage and a sense of justice and later also help the allies with their landing.

reception

TV Wishlist describes the series as an emotional family entertainment and roller coaster ride with pictures and animations that are worth seeing, which appeals not only to children but also to adults and thus goes against the cliché that animation is only for children. The experiences of the Second World War are told from the perspective of children and children are already shown didactically what the consequences of the Second World War are, without being instructive.

Awards

In 2016 the series won the Emil Children's Television Award in the animated drama series.
