Diego Ibarra is a district ( municipality ) in the state of Carabobo in northern Venezuela .
It has an area of only 79 km² . Diego Ibarra borders in the north and east on the state of Aragua with the Henri Pittier National Park, the coastal mountains and the districts of Mario Briceño Iragorry and Girardot; in the south it borders on Lake Valencia and in the west on the district of San Joaquín in the west.
Diego Ibarra was founded as a municipality ( Parroquia ) on December 3, 1781 and elevated to a municipality on August 13, 1981.
According to the 2001 census, Diego Ibarra had about 94,852 residents.
