Dieselknecht is a German folk band from Dortmund . Her style varies and takes on elements from American bluegrass to rockabilly and punk .

The name refers to a synonym for tractors .

history

Dieselknecht was founded in 2007 by Marcel Holthaus (guitar, vocals), Frank Kleingünther (banjo, vocals), Olav Baker (bass, vocals) and Martin Krause (drums). Guntmar Feuerstein from Bochum acted as the producer from the start .

In its early days, the band edited various German folk songs. After the release of the debut album Alte Liebe nicht rostet and the oral organ interpretations recorded there , Dieselknecht were studio guests at the radio station Deutschlandfunk Kultur in 2011 . In the editorial conference broadcast , they delivered interviews and music contributions on the subject of oral organs. Their cover versions of the songs Spiel nicht mit den Schmuddelkinder and Bolle recently traveled to Whitsun received special attention.

From 2009 to 2018 the band produced four studio albums under the direction of Guntmar Feuerstein, which were released by the two independent labels Ruhrfolk and AgrarBerlin.

In 2015 Dieselknecht was nominated for the popNRW award in the Outstanding category.

The individual album releases were each accompanied by various Germany-wide live performances (including the international Bühler Bluegrass Festival , Bochum Total , Zeche Zollverein , ARTE , WDR 5 ).

In the more recent past, the band has also been active on film together with the Dortmund director Jakob Reuter. In 2016, the video for the single The Last Poacher could be seen at several film festivals and was awarded 1st place in the music video category at the Jung und Abgedmerung film festival in Hanau .

In the following years the musical short film Zum Ewigen Knecht was created together with Jakob Reuter . The entire soundtrack was contributed by the band, with member Frank Kleingünther also co-writing the script. The premiere of the film took place in October 2019 in Bochum's Metropolis Filmtheater.
