The Kerkerbachbahn DT3 was a four-axle steam powered rail car of the private Kerkerbachbahn (KBB). This railcar was manufactured in Vienna according to the Komarek system and its basic structure was similar to the narrow-gauge steam railcars of the Niederösterreichische Landesbahnen NÖLB 40-44 . However, the designation DT3 is not entirely certain. Elsewhere it is referred to as steam railcar 4 , built in 1905 and with other technical deviations.

history

The background for the production of the car was the extension of the Kerkerbachbahn in 1907 to Mengerskirchen . A steam railcar was chosen for the transport needs of passenger transport so that the steam locomotives could only be used for freight transport. Since the Komarek company already had experience building such vehicles, this manufacturer was chosen.

If necessary, the car could take a sidecar with it. He drove about 25,000 kilometers a year until 1914. During the First World War it was rarely used, from 1920 to 1924 it was out of service. From 1925 onwards, it only covered between 3,000 and 7,000 kilometers in regular use. According to the company, he had his last assignments in 1928. In 1935 it was considered scrapped.

technical features

A conventional BCPwPost4iddT passenger car was used for the construction of the railcar and a steam engine from the Komarek machine factory in Vienna was added to form a steam railcar . The car was a combined 2nd class (7 seats) / 3rd class. 1st class (25 seats) car with a luggage compartment, a mail compartment and a toilet. The steam engine sat on the front axle. The front boiler room and engine room were followed by the luggage room, the mail room with side aisle, the 2nd class compartment , an entry room with central entry, the 3rd class compartment and a closed end stage.

The boiler of the two-cylinder high-pressure steam engine sat on the first axis. The steam engine worked as a composite , the cylinders were far back in the machine bogie and drove the first axle. The railcar was designed to be operated by one person, while a second person had to observe the route in push mode.
