The Dieter Schwarz Foundation is a non-profit company that is financed by Schwarz Beteiligungs GmbH from distributions from the two companies Lidl Foundation and Kaufland Foundation (both part of the Schwarz Group ). Both are based in Neckarsulm . Her main focus is in neighboring Heilbronn . The managing directors of the gGmbH are the former president of the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University Reinhold Geilsdörfer and Silke Lohmiller. The chairman of the shareholders' meeting is the former rector of the University of Mannheim and science minister of Baden-Württemberg, Peter Frankenberg .

history

In November 1999 Dieter Schwarz founded the company named after him, among other things, to strengthen the “efficiency of the citizens” through educational measures and to promote “ elite education ”. In 2003 the foundation's assets were valued at three million euros, in 2005 donations amounting to five million euros were reported annually. The business purpose is "the promotion of education and training, in particular through offers of training and further education for day care centers and schools, the promotion of new teaching and learning methods as well as enthusiasm of young people for technology and natural sciences". The organization also supports “the promotion of science and research at universities, in particular through endowed professorships and the financing of a private university for corporate management”.

Initially, nine endowed professorships were established in Heilbronn, Reutlingen, Mannheim, Bruchsal, Halle (Saale) and Leipzig in the fields of electronic trade and administration as well as business ethics . With a donation of 510,000 euros, the foundation covered a third of the renovation costs of Heilbronn's landmark, the tower of Kilian's Church . In October 2011, the Heilbronn Educational Campus , financed by the Dieter Schwarz Foundation , opened, on whose premises the German Graduate School of Management and Law , a branch of the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University Mosbach and the Academy for Innovative Education and Management (aim) are located . Almost a year after the opening, extensive expansion plans, largely financed by the foundation, were presented in the course of 2013 for the inclusion of the business administration food management course previously located in Bad Mergentheim . The Experimenta is to be expanded to include a new building in 2014 with funds from the foundation.

In the state of Brandenburg , the foundation sponsored a project called ZACK (Zukunft -bildung-Competenz-Karriere) from April 2005 to March 2008, in which some regional educational institutions in the state committed themselves to the integration of young people in primarily company-based training.

activities

Current

The foundation is currently trying to locate a branch of the Technical University of Munich on the educational campus in Heilbronn. While the University of Mannheim was initially favored, the Technical University of Munich was able to prevail in negotiations with other partners.

Former

criticism

The involvement in higher education is also viewed critically with regard to possible influence on higher education policy in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The planned establishment of a branch of the Bavarian Technical University of Munich in Heilbronn, Baden-Württemberg, was also the subject of political discussions in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament.

The managing director Reinhold Geilsdörfer is also not without controversy: As the acting president of the DHBW, he already worked for the organization. In connection with the establishment of the DHBW in Heilbronn, Geilsdörfer also had to deal with the accusation of accepting benefits in favor of the Dieter-Schwarz-Stiftung GmbH. This accusation was completely rejected by the Heilbronn public prosecutor after the accusation had already been completely refuted by the Stuttgart public prosecutor. Geilsdörfer reserved the right to take legal action against the advertiser.
