Dieter Eckert

Dieter Eckert (born February 24, 1926 in Erfurt ; † March 4, 2013 in Bonn ) was a German lawyer and ministerial official.

Career

After graduating from high school, Eckert studied law at the University of Heidelberg and the University of California in Berkeley, where he received his Master of Laws (LL. M). completed. In 1954 he joined the judicial service at the Baden-Baden regional court . In 1959 he moved to the Federal Ministry of Economics in Bonn. From 1963 until his retirement in 1991 he was a ministerial official in the Federal Ministry of Health and from 1980 head of the consumer protection and veterinary medicine department. From 1979 to 1981 he was President of the FAO / WHO Codex Alimentarius .

The University of Bonn appointed him honorary professor in 1974. He has published on European law as well as on national and international food law.
