Dieter Göhring (* 1935 ) is a former German weightlifter .

Career

Dieter Göhring grew up in Ohrdruf , Thuringia , and started lifting weights there as a teenager. At the German youth championships in 1953, which were still held all over Germany, he finished seventh in the class up to 65 kg body weight with 215 kg. This was the start of a very successful weightlifting career that would last until 1964. In 1954 he was already the 2nd winner of the all-German junior championships in middle heavyweight with 280 kg in the Olympic three-way fight. When drafted into the army, he started for the ASK Vorwärts Leipzig. In 1957 he was first East German middle heavyweight champion, which should be followed by five more East German championship titles. In 1957 he achieved his greatest international success when he became vice European champion in Katowice . In the same year he started at the World Championships in Tehran , in which an all-German weightlifting team consisting of himself and Roland Lortz took part. He then started at other World and European Championships with respectable results. When trying to qualify for the all-German team at the 1964 Olympic Games, he failed because of Norbert Fehr from Mutterstadt . He was so behind Fehr after the break that he had to go to 177.5 kg after a failed first attempt with 167.5 kg, which he failed twice.
