Life

Hager attended school in Wilferdingen and Pforzheim , which he graduated from high school in 1966 . He then studied physics in Berlin and medicine in Berlin, Göttingen and Oxford . He wrote scientific papers at the Technical University of Berlin , the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin, the Fritz Haber Institute in Berlin, the Institute for Biology at the Free University of Berlin and the Institute for Neurophysiology at the University of Göttingen .

The medical journal GZM said about his death: “The official memorial service took place on his 63rd birthday, January 15, 2010, where not only representatives of domestic and foreign organizations paid tribute to him, but also the Palatinate Prime Minister Kurt Beck . Many patients would have needed Dieter Hager and he cannot be replaced for many of the institutions mentioned. "

Professional career

From 1980 to 1986, Hager conducted research in the field of tumor immunology at Boehringer Mannheim and worked as medical-scientific director and authorized signatory in research, development and clinical testing in the cytobiological laboratories in Heidelberg. From 1987 to 1988 he was head physician at an oncological rehabilitation clinic in Friedenweiler / Titisee . You can read about his work in the specialist journal " Erlebnisheilkunde" , the author of which he was at times: "In 1989 he founded the BioMed specialist clinic in Bad Bergzabern. The clinic was one of the first complementary oncological clinics on German soil. He founded it in the sense of a combination of classic oncology, complementary additional methods and innovative therapies. In the past decades the house has gained a nationwide and international reputation as a hyperthermia center of unique standing. To date, over 40,000 patients have been treated in the clinic, including a. also from the USA, India, Arabia, Korea and neighboring European countries. "

PhDs

  • Natural science (Dr. rer. Nat.): Structural research of ribosomes in the Department of Biochemistry, Institute for Biology at the Free University of Berlin
  • Medicine (Dr. med.): Processing of olfactory senses, Institute for Neurophysiology of the University of Göttingen

clinical research

  • Conceptual development of a scientifically based "complementary oncology" that has been integrated with conventional oncology since the early 1980s.
  • Development of a regional perfusion chemotherapy for cancer treatment of the pleura in combination with hyperthermia in the abdomen, the bladder and the pleura . With this new method, the chances of survival and recovery of patients with advanced carcinomas in these organs could be significantly improved. In Germany alone, 1,500 - 2,000 cancer patients could benefit from this new method if this method were applied across the board.
  • Introduction of clinical deep hyperthermia with radio waves and research and clinic in Germany (1989). - The BioMed Clinic is the most comprehensive hyperthermia center worldwide in terms of the therapeutic spectrum and methodology .
  • Evidence of the effectiveness of deep hyperthermia with shortwave in patients with malignant brain tumors. A significant extension of survival and potential healing is possible compared to previous methods such as radiation and chemotherapy .

Honorary positions

  • Founder and board member of the German Society for Oncology since 1981
  • Founder, long-time managing director and board member of the Society for Biological Cancer Defense, a funding company for research and development of complementary methods in cancer therapy (over 20,000 members or sponsors) since 1982
  • Chairman of the Medical Society for alternative medicine and complementary medicine (about 15,000 medical members); Organizer of the Medical Week with over 4,500 participants annually
  • Founder and founding president of the German Society for Hyperthermia
  • Former President and longtime board member of the International Clinical Hyperthermia Society, USA
