Hayde studied with Professor Rudolf Wurzer at the Technical University of Vienna and already worked at the Institute for Urban Planning during his studies. His professional career began in Kurt Hlaweniczka's architectural office . As an office partner, he was jointly responsible for the development of the Franz-Josef-Bahnhof in Vienna. In 1994 he went into business for himself and opened his own architecture office, which since 2014 has operated as "HD Architekten ZT GmbH". With this he carried out a large number of different construction tasks such as residential and office buildings, infrastructure buildings and urban planning. One of the most important works is the Raiffeisen-Holding high-rise building on the Danube Canal (opened in 2013), which he planned together with the architect Ernst Maurer and which was the world's first passive high-rise office building.

Hayde has also been involved in the Chamber of Architects for many years and advised the City of Vienna as a member of the Advisory Board for Urban Planning and Urban Design.

Around 2015 he handed over the management of his architecture office "HD Architekten ZT GmbH" to his son Thomas Hayde .
