Dieter Hermann (sociologist)

Dieter Hermann (born September 26, 1951 in Heilbronn ) is a German sociologist and criminologist . In his main work, Values ​​and Crime , he conceived a general theory of crime .

Life

Hermann, who is also a qualified mathematician, works as a research professor at the Institute for Criminology at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , but is also active at the Max Weber Institute for Sociology at the university.

In his research on the connection between values ​​and crime, Hermann comes to the conclusion that people who maintain traditional values , such as religious ties, have a below-average level of delinquency . This is particularly evident in phases of social upheaval.

Hermann also works on crime prevention issues and has developed the Heidelberg Audit Concept for Urban Security (HAKUS) . He is also a member of the Religion and Society research group , which examines the religious socialization of children.
