Dieter Hucks in the fight against Fritz Gahrmeister in 1947

Dieter Hucks (born June 12, 1919 in Homberg ; † June 21, 1990 ) was a German boxer .

Career

Dieter Huck began even before the Second World War in his hometown of Moers with the boxes . By 1944 he had played 48 fights as an amateur. During the war he could not practice this sport. After returning from war and captivity, Dieter Hucks, who had learned the trade of a blacksmith at the "Rheinpreußen" colliery, started boxing at the age of 27 in 1946. He fought his first fight on August 25, 1946 in Henstedt-Ulzburg, Schleswig-Holstein . He defeated it in the middleweight Richard Zabel by knockout in the 1st round.

The specialty of Dieter Hucks, who was a stocky boxer who was rather small for his weight classes - middleweight and later light heavyweight - was his famous tiger jump . He jumped at his opponents, hit a right hook, surprised them with it and achieved some quick knockout victories, especially at the beginning of his career.

In his second professional fight, he defeated the former German champion Adolf Witt by knockout in the third round. In his eighth fight, Dieter Hucks beat ex-European champion Gustav Eder in Hamburg on January 25, 1947 in the fight for the German middleweight championship in the first round KO. He was the new German middleweight champion. On May 11, 1947 Dieter Hucks defended this title in Berlin with a point victory over Erich Campe , the silver medalist at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in the welterweight division.

On June 22, 1947 he lost his title to the experienced technician Fritz Gahrmeister , who was not surprised by Dieter Hucks, by being knocked out in the 8th round. In the revenge that followed on September 13, 1947, Dieter Hucks lost again to Gahrmeister. In this fight he had to be taken out of the ring in the 9th round because of his inability to defend himself.

In the following years Dieter Hucks was always good for surprises. Although he no longer succeeded in becoming German champion, he was still able to beat top boxers. He defeated z. B. on January 15, 1949 in Berlin Peter Müller from Cologne by KO in the 1st round and on February 9, 1951 in Hamburg Willi Hoepner by KO in the 3rd round. In the fight for the German championship in the light heavyweight division he reached a draw on August 14, 1949 in Berlin against Richard Vogt , who remained champion.

Dieter Hucks suffered defeats from Conny Rux from Berlin , to whom he lost in the 8th round by knockout, and from Hans Stretz from Erlangen , with whom he went over the full fighting time of 10 rounds and only lost on points. Dieter Hucks achieved a remarkable draw on November 17, 1950 in Berlin against the eventual European light heavyweight champion Jacques Hairabedian from France .

On February 11, 1954, Dieter Hucks played his last fight in Berlin against Nico Kramer from Luxembourg, which he won on points. Then he worked as an innkeeper in Braunlage / Harz .
