Dieter Lieberwirth

Dieter "Jogi" Lieberwirth (born January 13, 1954 in Fürth ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player .

Player career

Defensive midfielder Dieter Lieberwirth began his professional career in 1975 in the 2nd Bundesliga with 1. FC Nuremberg after stints at ESV Rangierbahnhof Nürnberg and TSV Roth . With the club he was promoted to the Bundesliga in 1978 and by the end of his career after relegation and promotion with the Nürnbergers made 139 Bundesliga appearances and scored 18 goals. In 1982 he played in the legendary DFB Cup final between 1. FC Nürnberg and FC Bayern Munich . Nürnberg led 2-0 at halftime and Dieter Lieberwirth came on in the 78th minute of the game, when Bayern were now 3-2 in the lead. The game ended 4-2 for Bayern. Still, the second place in the DFB Cup was the greatest success in Dieter Lieberwirth's career.

Coaching

After his active career in 1987 he became assistant coach at the Nuremberg team and in 1988 he was reactivated for three games. On April 10, 1990 he took over the position of head coach from Hermann Gerland , was replaced by the Dutch Arie Haan in the season, but continued to work as an assistant coach. In 1991 he took over as head coach of the amateur upper division club SG Quelle Fürth in his hometown. He stayed there as a coach until 2002. From 2003 he was back in the service of 1. FC Nürnberg as an assistant coach. His greatest success was winning the DFB Cup in 2007 , and from 2007 to 2010 Lieberwirth looked after the U19s of 1. FC Nürnberg.

At the end of December 2012, he took over the coaching position at the Bavarian regional division SC Eltersdorf , which he coached until the end of the season.
