Dieter Schäfer

Dieter Schäfer (born July 7, 1927 ) is a German historian .

Life

Schäfer spent his youth and school days in Darmstadt. In 1943 he became an air force helper and in 1945 he served in the war in Hungary and Austria, 5th PD. , 1st DG. convened. He was slightly wounded in the process. After fleeing from Soviet captivity, he was briefly interned by US troops . After attending a special course for combatants, he graduated from high school in Heppenheim and then studied from 1947 to 1951 at the universities of Mainz, Frankfurt and Würzburg. In 1951 he was promoted to Dr. phil is doing his doctorate .

Since 1951 a total of 42 years in the service of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Aschaffenburg, Hamburg, Bonn, Würzburg). From 1965 - 1993 IHK general manager Würzburg-Schweinfurt. During this term of office, the establishment of the IHK joint training workshops, the establishment of the center for further training in Würzburg, the move to the new IHK area in Zellerau and the preparation for the new IHK area in Schweinfurt.

He represented the Würzburg Chamber of Commerce in several national and international bodies and was a. a. Chairman of the DIHT Information Committee and one of the three German members of the BICC, the Chamber of Commerce office of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris.

He became known to a wider audience through several television films, the monthly television discussion “Treffpunkt Freimann” (1964–1992, 140 times) and through numerous lectures and publications, plus over twenty audio images, most of them for NDR and BR. From 1959 to 1962, in addition to his work at the Chamber of Commerce, he was linked to the NDR through a consulting contract. The Bavarian Authority for New Media he was a member since its foundation as a Media Council and headed for many years the television committee.

He was co-editor or member of the editorial board of several magazines such as the magazine for progressive entrepreneurship "Junge Wirtschaft", Bonn, the "Tradition", magazine for corporate history, Cologne, the " Wirtschaftsdienst " of the HWWA Hamburg and "Würzburg-heute". For the Federal Press Office he was on seven lecture tours across the USA and Canada.

At the University of Würzburg he was a lecturer for economic geography and since 1977 honorary professor. In the university federation he worked as a secretary for many years.

Schäfer was a member of the supervisory board of Preh Werke in Bad Neustadt, FAG Kugelfischer Schweinfurt KGaA and Mannesmann Rexroth GmbH Lohr.

After reunification, as chairman of the supervisory board of Simson Fahrzeugwerke GmbH Suhl and Elektrogerätewerk AG Suhl, he took on joint responsibility for the privatization of the two former combines and became the founding sponsor of the re-established Chamber of Commerce and Industry for South Thuringia in Suhl and founding representative of the Suhl Rotary Clubs. The Rotarians of RC Würzburg elected him twice as their president.

After his retirement, he advised the IHK Nordmoldavien as a senior expert on developing further training and setting up a start-up center in Baltsi based on the Würzburg model.

In retirement he lives secluded in Würzburg and researches and publishes as a historical author.

Schäfer has been with Gudrun, geb. Cropp, married with three children.
