Dieter Schewe

Dieter Schewe (born July 14, 1924 in Recklinghausen ; † January 16, 2014 in Oberwinter ) is one of the fathers of German social security .

Life

The mother Maria Schewe worked from 1908 as one of the first teachers at the grammar school. The father was chief inspector and was active as chairman of the Vinzenzverein in youth welfare . At the age of 17 Schewe was drafted into the Wehrmacht. After 1945 Dieter Schewe studied law at the University of Göttingen. From 1949 to 1954 he was assistant for labor and social law at the University of Social Sciences in Wilhelmshaven . 1955–1960 he worked in the General Secretariat for Social Reform, in the Federal Ministry of Labor 1956–1961 head of Section II / 3, from 1960 head of Section b 4 (including old-age insurance for craftsmen and the liberal professions, prevention and restoration), 1961–1970 head of Referates b 3 (pension insurance for workers, old-age insurance for craftsmen and the liberal professions), 1970–1971 head of subdivision c (common social insurance issues, procedural law), 1971–1975 head of subdivision b (pension insurance), 1975–1977 president of the Federal Insurance Office , 1977–1982 again head of the department (social insurance, social code ) in the Federal Ministry of Labor . Schewe was one of the designers of the pension reforms of 1957 and 1972.

Together with Prof. Walter Bogs , his mentor, he wrote the report for a pension reform in 1953. He worked on the social security code and also became one of the fathers of educational leave .

As a pensioner he wrote important works on the history of Sinzig .
