Dieter Schmidt-Volkmar

Dieter Schmidt-Volkmar (born February 3, 1940 ) is a German sports official .

Life

Schmidt-Volkmar was basketball department head at USC Freiburg and, together with Klaus Westerhoff and Siegfried Eckert, was one of those responsible who, from the 1970s onwards, pushed the development of USC basketball players into one of the largest basketball departments in Germany, not least the Promoted competitive sports component.

For several years he was President of the General German University Sports Association and head of delegation for the German team at several Universiades . Professional Schmidt-Volkmar served as Executive Councilor in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg operates. From 1991 to 2009 he held the office of chairman of the Basketball Association Baden-Württemberg (BBW) and was subsequently appointed honorary president of the BBW. From 1985 he was Vice President for Public Relations on the BBW board. In October 2001 Schmidt-Volkmar was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit with ribbon .

2007 Schmidt-Volkmar was the Landessportverband Baden-Württemberg elected to the presidency and took "the highest office in organized sports in Baden-Württemberg" on. In 2010 he was re-elected. In 2013 he applied for a further term as LSV President and in July 2013 received the unanimous support of the delegates for a third term at the General Assembly in Rust . In October 2015, Schmidt-Volkmar announced that he would not run for a fourth term. He left office in July 2016.
