Dietmar Gross (painter)

Dietmar Gross (born June 11, 1957 in Bexbach ) is a German painter and draftsman of fantastic realism .

Life

Gross studied painting and drawing at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz from 1978 to 1984 . He has been working as a freelance painter since 1984 . In 1984 he received the Kahnweiler Prize for Painting. In 1999 he became a member of the Artists' Association in Germany . From 2002 to 2004 he held a teaching position for artistic graphics at the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences . In 2004 he was appointed to the German Werkbund . From 2004 to 2005 he was visiting professor for drawing at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz. In 2006 he founded the "Oppenheimer Summer Academy". Since February 2014 he has been the 1st chairman of the Kunstverein Eisenturm Mainz e. V.

With a realistic painting style and old-master technique, Gross takes up topics from art history and mythology , fills them with contemporary content and ironically alienates them. Gross has been working on joint projects with the Chinese painter Yongbo Zhao since 2003.

He lives and works in Dienheim near Mainz.
