Dietrich Munz

Ernst Dietrich Munz (* 1952 in Stuttgart ) is a German psychotherapist and has been President of the Federal Chamber of Psychotherapists (BPtK) since 2015 . At the same time he is President of the State Chamber of Psychotherapists Baden-Württemberg .

Professional career

Munz studied physics at the University of Stuttgart and received his doctorate after graduating as a physicist in 1980 to Dr. rer. nat (topic of his dissertation: resonant Raman effect on localized excitons in cadmium sulfide ). The scientific examination of the subject of psychophysiology aroused his interest in clinical psychology . As a result, following his research work, he studied psychology in Trier and Tübingen and completed his psychoanalytic training in Stuttgart .

Munz works as an outpatient psychotherapist and as a department head and works council chairman at the psychosomatic Sonnenberg clinic in Stuttgart. His professional and scientific focus is on the psychotherapeutic treatment of eating disorders . Before he was elected BPtK President, he held various professional political functions. So he was u. a. Member of the federal board of the German Society for Psychoanalysis, Psychosomatics and Depth Psychology , was a delegate of the representative assembly of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians and since 2007 BPtK vice-president.

Munz is also a lecturer and board member at the Psychoanalytical Institute in Stuttgart and the editor and author of numerous specialist books and articles.

Positions

Munz criticizes the often prevailing treatment with psychotropic drugs on the part of medical colleagues , which is used instead of psychotherapy, and advocates closer collaboration between doctors and psychotherapists. At the same time, he advocates a comprehensive improvement in psychotherapeutic patient care, especially in the field of child and adolescent psychotherapy .

Furthermore, Munz positions himself in the course of the amendment of the Psychotherapists Act and the associated reform of the psychotherapist training for a license to practice medicine and thus follows a vote of the German Psychotherapist Day. Psychotherapists are currently qualifying as part of postgraduate training , i. H. As part of a multi-year further education, usually based on a 10-semester course, which ends with the state examination and the award of the license to practice medicine. The restructuring should be based on direct medical training with subsequent specialist training, said Munz.
