Dietrich von Gladiß (born June 7, 1910 in Diedenhofen , † missing in Charkow since August 12, 1943 ) was a German historian and diplomat .

Dietrich von Gladiß came from an old noble family. After attending grammar school in Detmold , he joined the Reichswehr as an officer candidate in 1929 . In the same year, however, he began studying history, first in Munich and then in Göttingen. With Alfred Hessel he received his doctorate in 1933 with his contributions to the Staufer Reich ministry . In 1934 he became an employee of the Monumenta Germaniae Historica . In 1935 he began to edit Heinrich IV's documents . In only three years he managed to get more than half of the 500 or so documents ready for printing and to critically edit the rest by the beginning of the war. An achievement that is unprecedented in modern document research. Systematic research into Heinrich IV's law firm formed the basis for his habilitation in Gießen in 1938 . A year later he was appointed lecturer. Later he was re- qualified to Göttingen, but he was no longer able to teach. Even during the war, he continued to work on the issue of certificates. In 1941 the first issue of Heinrich IV's documents appeared until 1076, the second issue in 1943. Since August 12, 1943, he has been missing after the fighting near Kharkov .
