Dimitrios Bitsios

Dimitrios Bitsios ( Greek Δημήτριος Μπίτσιος , * 1915 in Alexandria ; † January 9, 1984 in Athens ) was a Greek diplomat and politician .

Biographical data

He married Angela Kyriazopoulou, they had a daughter and a son. In 1934 he studied political science and economics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens . In 1939 he joined the foreign service. In 1945 he was Vice Consul of the Cairo Consulate . In 1946 he was second class secretary of the diplomatic mission in Cairo. In 1950 he was Secretary of the Embassy in London . He was a member of the Greek delegation to the Zurich and London Conferences and to Cyprus. From 1961 and 1965 and from 1967 to 1972, during the Greek military dictatorship , he was the permanent representative of the Greek government at the UN headquarters . From 1965 to 1966 he headed the Political Department in the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1966 to 1972 he was the private secretary of Constantine II (Greece) . In 1974 he was State Secretary in the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From October 17, 1974 to November 20, 1977 he was Greek Foreign Minister .
