Alexis Liatis

Alexios "Alexis" Liatis ( Greek Αλέξιος "Αλέξης" Λιάτης , born March 18, 1908 in Izmir ; † 1985 ) was a Greek diplomat .

Biographical data

His father, Stavros Liatis, was the Greek consul in Izmir. He studied law and economics at the University of Lyon . In 1929 he joined the foreign service. From 1934 to 1936 he was a consular officer in Rotterdam . From 1938 to 1943 he was a consular officer in Boston . From 1944 to 1948 he was Secretary of the First Class, then Counselor in London . In 1946 he was attached to Ottawa for two months. In 1945 he was the general secretary of the Greek delegation to the San Francisco Conference . In 1949 he was consul general in Nicosia . In 1950 he was consul general in Alexandria . On November 7, 1953, he was Minister Counselor in Ankara . In 1954 he was employed in Paris . From 1954 to 1958 he was employed in Rome. In 1955 and 1958 he took part in the sessions of the North Atlantic Council in Paris. From 1955 to 1957 he was used in Cyprus. In 1956 he was employed in Strasbourg and Karthoum . From October 6, 1958 to February 13, 1962, he was ambassador to Washington, DC and was also accredited to the government in Mexico City . He was then Ambassador to Tokyo Japan until 1965 and at the same time accredited to the governments in Seoul , Manila and Taipei . In 1947, 1948 and 1961 he was a delegate to the General Assemblies of the United Nations . From 1965 to 1967 he was permanent representative of the Greek government next to the UN headquarters . He was married to Aglaia G. María and their daughter is Myrto A. Aiatis. He was buried in Avlona , Attica , where his family came from.
