Dimitrios Galanis (also: Demetrios Galanis , Greek Δημήτριος Γαλάνης ; * May 17, 1879 in Athens ; † March 20, 1966 in Paris ) was an important Greek painter and engraver of the early 20th century.

Galanis went to Paris at the age of 20. After initial successes in exhibitions, especially in 1904 in the Salon d'Automne with a number of humorous drawings, Galanis worked as a collaborator for satirical magazines such as Le Rire , Le Cri de Paris , L'Assiette au Beurre , Gil Blas , Le Canard Sauvage , Simplicissimus and funny leaves . In 1920 he completed his most famous work Seated Naked . Galanis first achieved greater importance in France. His works have been exhibited in Paris, Brussels, London and New York alongside works by important contemporary artists of modern painting such as Henri Matisse , Georges Braque , Juan Gris , Raoul Dufy , Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso . He had a lifelong friendship with Picasso. In later years Galanis became a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1945 he was elected to succeed Henri Le Riche in the Académie des Beaux-Arts . Galanis lived on rue Cortot in the Montmartre district of Paris for fifty years .
