Dimitris Karaflas

Dimitris Karaflas ( Greek : Δημήτρης Καράφλας) (* 1935 in Tithorea , Fthiotida ; † November 24, 2010 ) was a Greek athlete and trainer .

biography

Karaflas was a discus thrower in the sports clubs AO Drama and Olympiacos Piraeus and was a member of the national athletics team between 1955 and 1965. He achieved his personal one at the end of his career in 1965 with a width of 49.67 meters and was more than fifteen meters from the discus world record of Ludvík Daněk , who threw 65.22 meters on October 12, 1965.

At the Panhellenic Championships he achieved second place in 1957, fourth place in 1958 and, most recently, third place in 1966. He also started at the Panhellenic Championships in 1959, 1960, 1961, 1964 in the decathlon and achieved his best performance in 1960 with fifth place. At the Mediterranean Games in Beirut in 1959 , he achieved fourth place in the discus throw with a width of 45.88 meters.

After the end of his active career, he became a coach and looked after athletes such as Stelios Angloupas , Adamantia Kokkoseli , Kostas Spanidis and Antonis Daskalakis . He later worked as a physical education teacher and, in the 1990s , became director of physical education at the Ministry of Education.

After further activities as head coach of the Athletics Association of Greece, he was also a referee, for example at the discus throwing competitions at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens .
