Diontae Lamarcus Johnson (* 5. July 1996 in Ruskin , Florida ) is an American American football poker players. He plays the position of wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League (NFL).

Career

Johnson played college football at the University of Toledo for the Toledo Rockets from 2015 to 2018 . As a freshman , he was able to participate in eleven games in which he caught 14 passes for 278 yards and three touchdowns. In the following year he sat out as a red shirt due to an injury . In 2017, he was able to catch 74 passes for 13 touchdowns and 1,278 yards, which was a school record. The touchdowns were the fourth most in the country. Both touchdowns and yards were the second most in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), and the number of passes captured was the third most. He became the first Toledo player since Eric Page (2011) to be elected All-MAC in three positions (wide receiver, kick and punt returner). In 2018, he caught 43 passes for seven touchdowns and 663 yards, leading the Rockets. He was again elected to three positions for All-MAC and was also voted MAC Special Teams Player of the Year . After the season, he announced that he would be giving up his final year of eligibility and signing up for the NFL Draft instead .

In the 2019 NFL Draft , Johnson was selected as the 66th player in the third round by the Pittsburgh Steelers . On May 8, 2019, he signed his four-year rookie contract . After he had significant playing time in the first two games, he was named a starter for the third game day. With 59 trapped passes for 680 yards and five touchdowns, he was able to lead the team. As a punt returner he was elected to the second team All-Pro .

Johnson is certified as having good vertical and lateral speed, which also allows him to gain space after catching the pass. His skills as a returner are also praised. His start and route running are also described as above average. His weaknesses are his lack of strength and more frequent focus drops.
