Ruskin is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hillsborough County in the US state of Florida with 17,208 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Ruskin is located at the confluence of the Little Manatee River and Tampa Bay . The CDP is located around 25 km south of Tampa and is crossed or touched by Florida State Road 674 , the Tamiami Trail ( US 41 ) and Interstate 75 .
history
1919 was built by the Tampa Southern Railway , a subsidiary of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad , a railway line from Tampa via Ruskin to Palmetto , which was extended to Bradenton in 1920 .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 17,208 inhabitants were distributed over 7,273 households. The population density was 466.3 inh / km². 71.7% of the population identified themselves as whites, 9.1% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.3% as Asian Americans . 15.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.2% to several ethnic groups. 42.9% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 22.8% of all households lived in 43.6% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 72.9% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 3.00 people and the average family size was 3.44 people.
33.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 30.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 22.9% were 40 to 59 years old, and 14.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 32 years. 50.5% of the population were male and 49.5% were female.
The median annual income was $ 49,099, with 16.9% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 67.67% of the population, 31.93% spoke Spanish and 0.40% spoke German .
