Thonotosassa is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hillsborough County in the US state of Florida with 13,014 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Thonotosassa is about 15 km northeast of Tampa . The CDP is affected by Interstate 4 and US Highway 301 ( SR 41 ).

history

A connection to the railroad network received the place in 1893 by the Tampa and Thonotosassa Railroad , which was part of the Plant System .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 13,014 inhabitants were distributed over 5,939 households. The population density was 301.3 inh / km². 76.7% of the population identified themselves as white, 15.6% as African American , 0.5% as Native American and 1.7% as Asian Americans . 2.9% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.7% to several ethnic groups. 11.8% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 33.5% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 27.6% of all households. 68.4% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.14.

26.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 20.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 41 years. 50.3% of the population were male and 49.7% were female.

The median annual income was $ 39,915, with 20.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 96.24% of the population and Spanish spoke 3.76%.

On June 13, 1972, Fort Foster was entered on the National Register of Historic Places .
