Diores (son of Amarynkeus)
Diores ( Greek Διώρης ) is a figure in Greek mythology .
According to Homer, Diores was the son of Amarynkeus and an Epeier , as Homer calls the inhabitants of the Elis region . They fought in the Trojan War on the side of the Achaeans (the Greeks) and Diores was one of their four military leaders who had the crew of ten ships under him.
On the day of the first and undecided battle between the Greeks and Trojans, he was hit on the ankle by a fist-sized stone from the hand of the Thracian leader Peiros . He fell on his back in pain and Peiros pursued. Peiros pushed the lance into the belly of Diores, who was looking for help for his comrades in arms, and Diores died. Peiros was then killed by the rushing Aitolian and former suitor of Penelope Thoas .
