PE teacher
A physical education teacher (also obsolete physical education teacher ) is generally understood to be a teacher of physical education in state or private schools. Sports teachers are trained either only for sports or for another school subject. That is why there is a single-subject bachelor's degree or a two-subject bachelor's degree. Accordingly, the training continues in the master’s degree, which usually focuses on a school or extracurricular focus. The simple term "sports teacher" is not a protected term. Colloquially, teachers in a single sport, such as tennis instructors, ski instructors or football instructors, can also be understood by the term.
Up until the introduction of the bachelor's and master's degrees, training in Germany took place either through a diploma course in sports science (qualification as a certified sports teacher ) or as a teaching degree with sport and one or more other subjects (completed with the first state examination ). In some federal states it was also possible to start a career without studying as a subject teacher . Cultural authorities that do not allow the employment of qualified sports teachers justify this with the fact that they only teach one subject and, in the event of an illness or disability, may be unable to work more quickly than teachers who teach another subject.
A broad spectrum of related sciences must be covered in academic studies at a university or a higher education institution with the same status , so that the various perspectives of the phenomenon of sport and doing sports (see multiperspectivity of sport education ) can be reflected upon and implemented in professional teaching.
In addition to basic knowledge in the various disciplines of sports science, such as the training theory , the sports medicine , the theory of motion , the Sociology of Sport , the sports psychology or sports history , study the appropriate is Fachdidaktik including specialized methodology taught.
