Dirk Basting

Dirk Basting (* 1945 in Bad Marienberg ) is a German chemist , physicist and entrepreneur .

Life

Basting studied chemistry in Marburg , worked from 1971 to 1975 at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen in the laser physics department of Fritz Peter Schäfer and received his doctorate there in 1975 with a thesis on nitrogen laser-pumped dye lasers with a large tuning range . At the suggestion and support of Fritz Peter Schäfer in 1971, together with Bernd Steyer , he founded Lambda Physik , a company in the high-tech field of laser technology, based in Göttingen.

From 2000 to 2002 he was President of the German Physical Society . He is a member of the Supervisory Board of Sartorius AG . Basting left Lambda Physik in 2003 and retired; he lives in Fort Lauderdale , Florida.

Basting is a member of the jury for the German Future Prize . He is also a "Personal Supporting Member" of the Max Planck Society .

He has a son and a daughter.
