Dirk Schatz (* the 30th December 1978 in Bochum ) is a German politician of the Pirate Party and Police Commissioner a. D. After the state elections from 2012 to 2017, he was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament , domestic policy spokesman for his parliamentary group and a member of the executive commission and the parliamentary control body of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Schatz graduated from high school in 1998. He completed a law degree and spent four years as an officer in the armed forces.

In July 2009, Schatz became a member of the Pirate Party. Before joining the Pirate Party, he was a member of the SPD . His thematic focus is on domestic politics , civil liberties and judicial policy . Until he took up his mandate in the state parliament, he was the second chairman of the district association of Hagen and stood as a direct candidate in the state election in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2010 in the state electoral district of Hagen I , receiving 2.0% of the first votes. In the state elections in 2010 he was in third place on the state list, in the state elections in 2012 he moved into the state parliament over the list place 16.

Together with another member of the Pirate Party, Nicolaus Kern , he reported the North Rhine-Westphalian Finance Minister Norbert Walter-Borjans for buying tax CDs.

In March 2013, Schatz caused a stir when he first introduced himself as a convert to Islam in a plenary debate and then justified the radicalization of German Muslims with their exclusion. Schatz was then accused by the SPD, among others, of playing down Islamism . After the protests, Schatz stated that he was far from "protecting Salafists". In doing so, he distanced himself from “any form of violence”.

When the Pirate Party left the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017 , he lost his mandate.
