Dirk Schlottmann

Dirk Schlottmann (born December 25, 1968 in Mainz ) is a German ethnologist and photographer .

Professional background

Schlottmann studied ethnology and African philology with the ethnologist Ivo Strecker at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and received his doctorate in 2007 with Susanne Schröter at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main in historical ethnology on the topic of Korean shamanism in the new millennium . From 2008 to 2010 he was visiting professor at Konkuk University (Global Campus) in South Korea. From 2010 to 2017 he worked as a visiting professor at the Korea National University of Education (South Korea). In 2018 he founded the Institute for Korean Shamanism in Berlin.

His doctoral thesis is considered a standard work on modern Korean shamanism in German-speaking countries . His main research interests are Korean shamanism, Asian spirituality , trance and ecstasy, and visual anthropology .
