When the 1. FCM won the GDR soccer cup a month later , Stahmann was not part of the squad. Even when he won the cup in 1979 he was not called up in the final, only when 1. FCM won the men's cup for the third time in Stahmann's active career on June 4, 1983, he won the 4-0 final over FC Karl-Marx-Stadt involved. Of the 55 games played by Magdeburg in the national cup competitions, Stahmann completed 42 games in which he scored nine goals.

Stahmann never got title honors in the GDR championship; when he joined the league team, 1. FC Magdeburg had already had its best championship years. Two third places in 1981 and 1990 are the best results that Stahmann achieved in the GDR Oberliga . For years, the 1.93 m tall defender held the position of Libero in the Elbe cities, from 1985 to 1994 he was team captain. Between 1978 and 1991 he played 278 point games in the GDR league and scored 33 goals there. In the DFB game operation, another 50 point games with 15 goals in the NOFV Oberliga were added until 1994 . Stahmann completed his last competitive game for 1. FC Magdeburg on May 1, 1994 in the league game of the NOFV-Oberliga in Berlin with the amateurs of Hertha BSC (2-1 for FCM).

International

Stahmann was also active in international games on many levels. With 1. FC Magdeburg he played 21 games in the European Cup Winners' Cup and in the UEFA Cup . Here he was most successful in the 1978/79 season, when he advanced with the Magdeburg team to the quarter-finals of the cup winners' competition.

Stahmann first came to international selection apprenticeships in the GDR junior national team . She became vice European champion in 1980, but only played a few minutes in the first leg against the Soviet Union (0-0, second leg without Stahmann 0-1). From 1984 he played Libero like in Magdeburg and kept this position until his last international match on November 15, 1989 in the game Austria - GDR (3-0). The two qualifying games against Scotland (November 13, 1983, EURO 2: 1) and against the Soviet Union (8 October 1989, World Cup 2: 1) are among the most successful of his 46 full international matches.

In 1983 and 1984 Stahmann was used in 16 qualifying games of the GDR Olympic team . The team qualified for the Olympic football tournament in Los Angeles, but the GDR's Olympic boycott prevented Stahmann from participating in the Olympic Games.

After the football career

After 27 years of football, Stahmann turned to professional life and became a sales consultant at a Magdeburg car dealership. As a member of the club, however, he kept the connection to 1. FC Magdeburg upright and also performed with the traditional team. In March 2009, Stahmann was appointed 29th honorary member of the club.
