Dirk Ulrich
Dirk Ulrich (born September 27, 1954 ) was a soccer goalkeeper in the GDR . For 1. FC Magdeburg he played ten games in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the East German Football Association.
Soccer career
As a junior player for BSG Lok Stendal , Dirk Ulrich was once used in the junior national team of the GDR. He guarded the goal of the junior team on April 30, 1972 in the game GDR - Hungary (3: 3). After Ulrich Schulze ended his senior league career at 1. FC Magdeburg in 1976, the Magdeburg team signed Dirk Ulrich as the second goalkeeper alongside Bernd Dorendorf . Ulrich was immediately used on the first day of the league season 1976/77 in the encounter between Rot-Weiß Erfurt and 1. FCM (2-0), but then Dorendorf was the goalkeeper. Ulrich only came back to play on matchday 17, so that he was in the Magdeburg goal ten times throughout the season. In addition, on March 16, 1977, he guarded the FCM's goal in the quarter-final match for the UEFA Cup at Juventus Turin, which Magdeburg lost 1-0 and was eliminated from the cup. For the 1977/78 season Dirk Heyne was designated the first goalkeeper of the FCM and also played all 26 league point games. A year later Ulrich was officially removed from the league squad and transferred to the junior league team.
Ulrich also only played a few games in the junior league, as he had to start his military service in November 1979. He was given the opportunity to continue playing football with the army sports community Vorwärts Havelberg . In 1980 Ulrich rose to the third-class district league Magdeburg with the Havelberg team . According to Leske "Encyclopedia of GDR Football" (2007), Ulrich returned to Lok Stendal after his military service, but he was never named in the first team. Ulrich was later no longer mentioned in higher-class football. After his active career, he worked as a coach for lower-class football teams, for example in the 2007/08 season with the fifth-class association league club Magdeburger SV Börde 1949 .
