Disocactus eichlamii is a species of the genus Disocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the German cactus collector Friedrich Eichlam .

description

Disocactus eichlamii has basal, rotating, upright, later bent and hanging main shoots which are up to 40 centimeters long and 1.5 to 5 centimeters wide. They are flattened round and round at the base, otherwise triangular, partially flattened with wavy edges. The areoles are not thorned.

The flowers appear singly or up to five in clusters along the length of the flattened shoot parts. They are narrow, somewhat tubular-funnel-shaped, carmine-red and are 6 to 8 centimeters long. The stamens and the style stick out clearly. The spherical red fruits are 0.9 to 1.4 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Disocactus eichlamii is widespread in Guatemala in the Escuintla and Santa Rosa administrative districts between 1000 and 2200 meters altitude.

It was first described as Phyllocactus eichlamii in 1911 by Wilhelm Weingart . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose introduced them to Disocactus in 1913 .

Synonyms are the following described species: Phyllocactus eichlamii Weing. (1911) and Epiphyllum eichlamii (Weing.) LOWilliams (1962).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
