Ditte Bandini

Ditte Bandini (* 1956 as Ditte Uplegger ) is a German writer, Indologist , translator and mycologist. She is married to Giovanni Bandini , with whom she has written numerous books and translated them into German. She also published under her previous name Ditte König or Ditte Bandini-König .

Life

Bandini studied ethnology , Indian religious history and Indology . She received her PhD in 1983 on the mythology and cult of the termite mound in the Indian tradition. Since then she has been working at the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences as a research assistant on a rock art project .

Since 1987 she has also worked as a writer and translator together with her husband. Giovanni and Ditte Bandini have translated several volumes of poetry and prose by the Irish Nobel Prize winner Seamus Heaney , novels and short stories by Colm Tóibín , novels from the Inspector Rebus series by Ian Rankin and Mister Aufzugvogel and Dangerous Mistress by Haruki Murakami from English into German.

In addition, Bandini wrote, also together with her husband, numerous books on myths, mythical creatures and fairy tales, which have been translated into various languages.

Ditte Bandini is a specialist in the mushroom genus Inocybe (crack fungi) and received the Adalbert-Ricken Prize, which is awarded every two years by the German Society for Mycology eV, in 2016.
