Dittmar Dahlmann

Dittmar Dahlmann (born July 14, 1949 in Düsseldorf ) is a German Eastern European historian .

Life

Dittmar Dahlmann was born in Düsseldorf in 1983 with a thesis on the subject of land and freedom. Machnovščina and Zapatismo as examples agrarian revolutionary movements doctorate . In 1994 he completed his habilitation in Freiburg with the title The Province Elects. Russia's Constitutional Democratic Party and the Duma elections 1906-1912 . From 1980 to 1986 he worked on the Max Weber Complete Edition . From 1990 to 1996 Dahlmann was head of the research center for the history and culture of Germans in Russia at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg. From 1996 he was professor and chair holder for Eastern European history at the University of Bonn . In 2015 he retired and was succeeded by Martin Aust .

Research priorities

The focus of his research is Russia and the Soviet Union from the 18th century to contemporary history. His focus is on the history of science (exploration of Siberia and the Far East since the 18th century), the history of entrepreneurship in Russia in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and the history of Siberia . In addition, researching the early history of football in Russia is currently one of the central topics of his research.
