Peter Pabisch

Peter Pabisch (born April 17, 1938 in Vienna ) is an Austrian-American author, poet, literary scholar and professor emeritus for German and German Studies at the University of New Mexico .

Life

Peter Pabisch studied at the universities in Vienna (Dr. phil. 1985) and Urbana (Illinois) ( Ph.D. 1974) and previously taught at the Otto Glöckel School in Vienna- Hietzing .

In 1969 he moved with his family to the United States , where he has lived since. He first taught as an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Champaign (Illinois) before he was appointed to the University of New Mexico in 1972, where he was a full university professor. He has been retired since 2004 and now also lives in Vienna.

Pabisch founded the Atlantic Bridge on the Camino Real , an international organization for the formation of academic partnerships which, among other things, organize school and student exchange programs. In 1975 he and George Peters founded the German Summer School of New Mexico in Taos Ski Valley , whose events deal with German intellectual and cultural history. One focus of his research is the German-language dialect poetry , as a visiting professor he gave lectures in Vienna, Graz , Berlin, Jyväskylä and in Portland (Oregon) .

Peter Pabisch is a member of the Austrian PEN Club and the PEN Center Germany .
