Divna Ljubojević

Divna Ljubojević (born April 7, 1970 in Belgrade , Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian singer ( soprano ) with a focus on Eastern Church music . As a child she sang in a church choir and as a soloist. She has been working with the Melodi choir since 1991 and sings regularly on Sundays and public holidays in monasteries and churches. She regularly gives concerts abroad, especially in Russia, where she is particularly active during the major religious holidays. Her anniversary CD with an anthology of recordings from 25 years became the best-selling in the country, which catapulted the artist into the realm of mainstream culture. Part of the reason for its increased media presence was an interpretation of a hit by Bajaga , which later became a hit as an official video as a tribute to the Red Star football club. She sang the national anthem Bože Pravde at the inauguration of the then Serbian President Boris Tadić , but refused to repeat any further requests.

Life

After Divna had already attended the Stevan Mokranjac Music Elementary and Middle School in Belgrade, she finally enrolled at the Music Academy in Novi Sad . The Hegumene Agnia Dmitrović in the Vavedenje Monastery became essential for Byzantine chanting. The voice and style of singing of the Hegumens directed Divna's vocal development towards the examination of the style of Byzantine choral music. From 1980 Divna and her parents attended the masses of the Vavedenje monastery and became part of the choir as an exceptional vocal talent. With the spiritual revival in Serbia since the mid-1980s, Divna was first known among churchgoers, and from 1991 she established herself with the Melodi choir (based on Romanos Melodos ) in the other music scene.

During the time of socialist Yugoslavia, the Divnas family belonged to those who attended the church liturgy on Sundays and holidays. Three family members on the paternal side were shot by the communists in 1945, a normal visit to church was therefore also a kind of criticism of the system for the family, public creeds were tolerated but socially undesirable. Through the acquaintance and early friendship with the then Hieromonachos Amfilohije Radović and Divna's father on the occasion of the publication of the obituary of the deceased mother in the Politika , where Divna's father worked, the family discovered the Vavedenje Monastery, which at that time had become very popular among young Belgrade residents.

Divna began conducting in 1988 in the oldest choir in Serbia, the First Belgrade Choir (Prvo Beogradsko Pevačko Društvo). In 1991 she conducted the Mokranjac choir as well as numerous church choirs of the Belgrade churches at Easter mass in the Cathedral of St. Sava in Belgrade, where Dušan Miladinović was actually planned, but who appointed Divna as the conductor. In 2007 Divna was called to inaugurate the Serbian premier. She declined later calls to accompany further inaugurations and left it at this one time.

In 2000 Divna and her choir had their first international performance in Paris. Since then the choir has had regular concerts abroad. Divna teaches master classes at the Orthodox Spiritual Festival in Saint Petersburg and has given classes in London.

Concerts

Divna and her choir are particularly known in Serbia, Ukraine and Russia. In 2013 they held the opening concert of a European tour in the Sava Congress Center. The Russian basso profondo Wladimir Miller was invited as a guest . In Kiev she was awarded the Order of the Icon of the Theotokos of Pochayiv by the former Ukrainian fellow politician Volodymyr . In 2012 the choir performed in the Moscow Kremlin in front of Vladimir Putin and the Moscow Metropolitan Kyrill. The choir performed three Easter concerts in the great hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic . On November 9th, 2015 Divna had a guest appearance at the Zvezdara Theater in Belgrade. Accompanied by the IntermecoKvartet, she interpreted a well-known song Bajagas that would develop into a hit and permanently cement Divna's publicity in the mainstream media.

Movie and TV

The Divna and Melodi choir concerts were broadcast on television in Serbia, Russia and Ukraine, especially during religious holidays. For the Orthodox Christmas 2016, the Russian state broadcaster recorded a program for the 1st channel - Pervy Canal - under the title "Рождественский бульвар" directed by Alexandr Nazarow with religious songs in Israel, in the Divna at the sacred sites in Jerusalem and Betlehem and will be shown on January 7, 2016. In 2018 Divna interpreted the title song of the RTS series Rađanje kraljevine of the same name , which is committed to the creation of the Serbian Kingdom in the Middle Ages and which was the most watched series at the time of broadcast.

In the documentary Human by director Yann Arthus-Bertrand , Divna sings the soundtrack with the song "Jerusalem" in the composition of Armand Amars .
