Dmitri Nikolajewitsch Kosak ( Russian Дмитрий Николаевич Козак ; born November 7, 1958 in Bandurowo , Kirowohrad Oblast , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian politician. Since October 2008 he has been Vice Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation . Kosak's most important task in this office was to coordinate preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi .

Life

Kosak successfully graduated from Leningrad University in 1985 with a law degree . He is considered a close confidante of Russian President Vladimir Putin , with whom he worked in the St. Petersburg city administration as early as the 1990s.

From 2000 he was the first deputy head of the Russian Presidential Office, responsible for administrative reform, judicial reform and reform of local self-government.

In March 2004, Kosak became head of the government apparatus with the rank of minister. He was responsible for Vladimir Putin's election campaign in the 2004 Russian presidential election.

Since September 2004 he was the authorized representative of the President in the Federal District of Southern Russia . In a report to Putin published in the press in June 2005, Kosak complained of mismanagement and corruption, especially in the republics of Dagestan and Chechnya .

In September 2007 he returned to the cabinet as Minister for Regional Development and since October 2008 he has been Vice Prime Minister. His most important task in this office is the preparation for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. In Russia, Kosak is seen as a politically versatile "firefighter" with very good management skills.

Vladimir Putin announced on February 18, 2020 that Kosak would be the new commissioner of the presidential administration for Ukraine. He replaces Vladislav Surkov in this position .

On April 29, 2014, Kosak was placed on a boycott list of the European Union as a result of the 2014 crisis in Ukraine .
