Doctor Doom ( Victor von Doom , in Germany also known as Dr. Unheil ; in Die Avengers -Comic No. 7 (US No. 8) of the Williams publishing house he was also called "Dr. Untergang") is a fictional character of the US -american comic publisher Marvel Comics , which first appeared in Fantastic-Four -Comic # 5 in 1962 in the USA .

Victor von Doom is the ruler of the fictional state of Latveria , which lies roughly between Hungary , Serbia and Romania . As the son of "Gypsy" ( English gypsies ) Werner and Cynthia in a camp near the latverischen capital Haas city born, the dictator took over the country after his coup in which he the former King Vladimir Vassily Gonereo Tristian Mangegi Fortunov had killed. As a result, Haasenstadt was renamed Doomstadt . The mad scientist and later in his story also a magician can often be found as the arch enemy of the Fantastic Four in their comic series, but he also represents a strong and intelligent opponent of the respective protagonists in other Marvel comics.

Doom hides his face and body, disfigured by an accident, under a steel mask and metal armor, which is equipped with all kinds of high-tech weapons and technical "gadgets" and is surrounded by a long, dark green cloak with a hood. The only human thing that can be seen are his eyes. Author Stan Lee was inspired by images of death for the character. Dr. Doom likes to surround himself with Doombots , doppelganger robots who act as the repressive state police to keep their subjects in Latveria under control.

After the comic series Secret Wars from 2015, Dr. Doom becomes a superhero as the new Iron Man for the time being after his alter ego Tony Stark was put into stasis after an injury in the Second Superhero Civil War . Doom's face is disfigured again during an attack by a team of super villains called The Hood , after which he returns to his old role as the villain.

Actual filming

In the 2005 movie Fantastic Four , Doctor Doom is played by Julian McMahon , although the story of the film does not match that of the comics. On the one hand, von Doom is a financier and part of the space mission and thus on board the shuttle in which the Fantastic Four receive their superpowers, on the other hand, his body is gradually transformed into metal and he is given the ability to generate electrical surges. Second, he is not explicitly identified as the ruler of Latveria. In the film, however, his mask, known from the comics, is a trophy donation from the citizens of Latveria, over which he rules in the comics.

In the sequel to the 2007 film called Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer , Julian McMahon reappeared in the role of Dr. Doom on.

He is played by Toby Kebbell in the 2015 movie Fantastic Four .

Dr. Doom also appeared in the following cartoon series in which he played the villain: The Fantastic Four (1967-1970), The New Fantastic Four (1978-1979), Spider-Man (1981-11982), and Spider-Man his Extraordinary Friends (1981–1983), The Fantastic Four (1994–1996), New Spider-Man (1994–1998) and The Incredible Hulk (1996–1997). In Fantastic Four (2007) and Ultimate Spider-Man (2012) he appears again and again as a skillful manipulator and opponent of the superheroes. He is also the main opponent in The Super Hero Squad Show .

Trivia

The Swiss stock market expert Marc Faber is often referred to as Dr. Doom after he correctly forecast several stock market crashes and economic crises in recent years.
