The Dog Islands are a four small islands archipelago of the British Virgin Islands .
geography
The Dog Islands are located about 10 km northeast of Tortola , the main island of the British Virgin Islands, and about 4 km north-west of Virgin Gorda in the Strait Sir Francis Drake Channel.
The uninhabited islets are of volcanic origin and have a total area of about 0.7 km² (173 ac ).
The four islands belong to the group:
- Great Dog Island, main island, approximately 0.40 km² (98 acres),
- George Dog Island, approximately 0.18 km² (44 acres),
- West Dog Island, approximately 0.11 km² (27 acres),
- and the very small Cockroach Island , about 0.02 km² (4 acres).
The two Seal Dog Islands , located about 3 km northeast, are sometimes also counted among the Dog Islands, but are geographically not part of the archipelago.
The waters around the Dog Islands offer some attractive diving opportunities.
